welcome!

The spring issue of Knitty features my new column. Frankenknits will be an ongoing feature in Knitty, but this website will allow me flexibility to add things between issues, to post readers' own franken-inspired projects and to share other resources and tips.

Frankenknits is about chopping up old things to create new things. To reuse, reknit, recycle, refashion and reinvigorate those tired items at the back of your closet -- or someone else's tired things that you've found at the second hand shop. It'll involve knitting, thriftshopping, various other needle and fibercrafts, and running with scissors.

Add in some tasty snacks and you've got the makings of a perfect afternoon, in my book.

I really enjoyed your column in Knitty! I'm looking forward to seeing what else shows up on this site.
Well done!

Very cool column! I can't wait to see what people come up with.

Cool Job Kristi,
What don't you do? Glad you're my teach! Cool column by the way. I'm itching to try it now with all those sweaters I got at the Rummage Sale!

Great column in Knitty, I'm excited to see what will come next!

hi! i am *so* excited about your new column in knitty, and the whole concept behind frankenknits. watch out -- i will be trying out all the new stuff you challenge us crafty people with! :)

the bunny on the sweater is fantastic, btw...

i loved your knitty article and i can't wait to see more on your website! So much good stuff wrapped together is tremendous:)

I had to leave a comment saying how much I loved your sly little reference on the red sweater in your knitty article... I stared at "746.432" for a few seconds while I searched my mental files to come up with why that seemed so familiar. I burst out laughing and cried out "Dewey Decimal knitting call number!" so loud I woke up my sleeping baby. Thanks for the cleverness - that was great.

I love reusing and recycling! I am in the middle of ripping out a moth eaten wool sweater. Hey, half is still good ;)

That sounds like a great combination of most of my favourite things ever.
Will definitely keep you bookmarked.
And I'm with Shannon B... I did the same thing!

Free the yarn trapped in bad garments! It's good for the Earth. It's good for the yarn. It's good for the knitter. And it's a wicked thrill to frog someone else's stitches.

This is wonderful. Just as I start thinking about reusing knitting someone else is also! There is a great pattern for reusing old large sweaters to make bags in the book Alterknits if anyone is interested.

I'm so glad you are going to have the articles in Knitty and this website. I will be a regular reader!

Dawn

Frankenknits is an idea whose time has come!! This sounds like an idea *I* had a while back, but, of course, didn't actually *DO* anything about. Thanks for getting this concept in motion.
P.S. the Knitty column is fab!

Kristi!

Wow what a fun article and place you have set up here! Thank you for the never ending inspiration :))
